    Userplane's Jones, Thelen Make Departure Official

    Michael Jones and Nate Thelen, co-founders of web software firm Userplane, have both officially stepped down from their positions at AOL, according to a message from Jones Wednesday afternoon. Jones, who was CEO and co-founder of Userplane, and a VP at AOL, and Thelen, who was CTO of Userplane, will both continue as advisors to the firm, with Sam Wick, currently Vice President of Userplane, taking over daily management responsibilities....READ MORE >>

    ValueClick To Buy Back Options

    Westlake Village-based ValueClick said Tuesday in a filing with the SEC, that it is looking to buy back out-of-money stock options from its employees. The firm said that it would purchase up to 4.9 million stock options, with exercise prices ranging from $25.66 to $29.73 per share, issued by the company to employees, officers, and directors in 2007.     Active Network Raises $80M

    San Diego-based The Active Network has raised $80M in a round of funding, the firm confirmed with socalTECH Wednesday. According to a spokesperson for the company, the lead investor in the round was ESPN, with additional funding coming from Canaan Partners, North Bridge Venture Partners, and Performance Equity Partners.     EMRISE Sells PCB Division
    Rancho Cucamonga-based EMRISE Corporation, a manufacturer of defense and aerospace electronics, said Wednesday that it has sold the assets of its printed circuit board business to Sierra Circuits. EMRISE's PCB business, EMRISE Circuit Division, was based in Monrovia, California. According to EMRISE, Sierra will pay $160,000 for the assets of ECD.     Pacific Microwave Research Acquired
    Vista, California-based Pacific Microwave Research, a developer of analog and digital microwave video transmission technology, has been acquired by Visilink plc, a Masachusetts-based firm. Visilink plc did not disclose financial terms of the deal.     EQAL Rolls New Series

    Los Angeles-based EQAL, the online entertainment firm behind lonelygirl15, said today that it will launch a new online serial drama called "LG15: The Resistance". The new series is based on the firm's prior lonelygirl15 and KateModern dramas, and will be distributed through MySpaceTV, imeem, Veoh, YouTube, and Hulu.     United Online Completes FTD Buy
    Woodland Hills-based United Online said Tuesday that the firm has completed its acquisition of FTD Group, Inc. The deal was worth approximately $441M, in a mix of cash and stock. United Online originally announced the acquisition of FTD in April. United Online said that it expects the deal to help it increase in scale, diversify its revenue streams, and expand its marketing opportunities.     EdgeCast Signs Mashable

    Los Angeles-based content delivery network firm EdgeCast Networks has signed on social media news site Mashable as a customer, the firm said Tuesday afternoon. Financial impact of the deal was not disclosed, however EdgCast said that Mashable will use its CDN services for distributing its blog posts.     Xirrus Gets Win At Packing Firm

    Thousand Oaks-based Xirrus, which manufactures wireless switches, said Tuesday that the firm's products have been selected by Bonipak, a produce packing company based in Central California.     IOGEAR Rolls HD Video Streaming Product
    Irvine-based IOGEAR, a developer of consumer electronics and other hardware, announced a new product for streaming HD video between a PC and television. According to IOGEAR, the firm's new wireless USB to VGA kit enabled HD video streaming between a PC and TV or projector. The new device uses wireless USB to connect to a laptop or desktop, and supports up to 720p video.     Novatel Launches With Canadian Wireless Provider

    San Diego-based Novatel has snagged a win in Canada, saying this morning that the firm's wireless broadband products have been launched with Fido, a Canadian wireless provider. Novatel, which develops wireless broadband cards and technology used for connecting PCs to 3G WCDMA, CDMA, and GSM wireless networks, said that one of its wireless broadband USB modems was selected by Fido, which the firm says is Canada's third largest wireless provider.     Xoova Goes Under

    Santa Monica-based Xoova, an online health related web site focused on connecting physicians and patients, has shut its doors. The site, which was funded by Spark Capital, started as DoctorsDirect.com and renamed itself Xoova in February of last year. The firm had received $2.5M in funding from Spark Capital.     NetworkD Acquired By Sparxent
    Newport Beach-based NetworkD, a value added reseller of IT solutions, has been acquired by a new startup, Sparxent. Sparxent, which is based in Salt Lake City, Utah, did not disclose financial terms of the acquisition, but said that it acquired NetworkD as part of the firm's funding and launch.     Broadcom Buys AMD's Digital TV Business

    Irvine-based Broadcom announced this morning that the firm has acquired AMD's digital TV business. According to the companies, Broadcom will pay approximately $192.8M in cash in exchange for AMD's digital TV assets.     QAD Loses CFO

    Santa Barbara-based QAD Inc. said Thursday that the firm's CFO, Daniel Lender, has resigned. According to QAD, Lender resigned to "pursue a new business opportunity." No details on Lender's new role was given. QAD said the firm has begun a search for Lender's replacement. QAD said that Lender's resignation is effective September 12th.
